General Manager Position:

JOB SUMMARY

To plan, organize, manage, and direct the operations of the Walker County Water & Sewerage Authority (Authority) and implement the decisions of the Authority’s Board of Directors 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Works with the Board of Directors on both fiscal and developmental levels
  • Develops and Responsible for O&M budget, and short and long-term organizational plans
  • Provides hands-on day-to-day financial and operational management
  • Directs and Assists department heads; i.e. superintendents/office managers
  • Works/Communicates with engineers and/or State regulators on plans and projects
  • Maintain commitment to customer service and public relations
  • May assist work crews or plant personnel with repairs/maintenance/special activities or projects
  • Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Preference given for Georgia water and/or wastewater operator certifications
  • Preference given for college degree or college experience.
  • Preference given for training or experience in office or management.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of appropriate State and Federal Regulations
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with various local, regional, and State officials and departments
  • Ability to work independently with little to no supervision.
  • Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures relating to duties.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Preference given for Georgia water and/or wastewater operator certifications
  • A valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the General Manager. Reasonable accommodation can be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the essential function of this job.

Speak, hear, stand, walk and see frequently.  Ability to lift 50 pounds for field operations. Employee sits most of the time, with ability to stand or walk frequently as needed.  May be subjected to disgruntled customers. May have to work in adverse weather conditions or at odd hours.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is usually exposed to a normal noise level. About 80% of the work is performed in a controlled office environment with regulated heating and air conditioning.  

An estimated 20% of the time is spent outside in weather conditions normal to this region. Employee will also spend some time driving from one location to another.
